1)This is i picture of 4 cavemen 3 of which are cooking but only one is using a stick to hold its food whereas ther others are using their hands and getting burned and are in pain.

    2) It is related because in 2001: A Space Odyssey Moonwalker imagined he saw four plumpy man apes.
"Night after night the spectacle of those 4 plump man-apes was repeated..." - 2001: A Space Odyssey

3)It like it it reminds me of peanuts (Charlie Brown) and it shows hinting of smarter intelligiance in one of the man-apes while the others are getting hurt and/or injured. PLUS! i find the glasses on the man-ape funny.

4)A drawing I would of used would be a spear because it seems to me that that is what the man apes are building up to by first using the sharp rock.
"It was a heavy, pointed stone about six inches long." - 2001: A Space Odyssey

  2. Zog discovered a new way to cook food without worrying about being burned by fire.IN 2001: A Space Odyssey when the man apes were possessed they were each learning new skills to perform. This comic gave me a little giggle but you must first analyze the picture first but yes i liked it.2001: A Space Odyssey is a suspenceful story that will keep you geussing. I would make a drawing that showed a man discovering a wheel or fire and utilizing both of those things.

  3. In this picture, I see four cavemen trying to survive, three are still shell-shocked with evolution and one caveman has already configured a logical idea of evolution. As the three other cavemen put their hands directly into the fire, the lone caveman is keeping his hands a safe distance from the fire.

This directly relates to the story because that is how Moon-Watcher is in comparison to the other man-apes because he is far ahead in evolution. This is shown when the author said, "The first imitations of intelligence could not possibly fulfill itself"(Clarke, 2001: A Space Odyssey). This is also shown when he said, "He was a giant"(Clarke, 2001: A Space Odyssey), in comparison to the other man-apes.

I like this picture because it enumerates the differential in man-apes during those last stages fo evolution. I believe 2001: A Space Odyssey is a great example of this picture just placed in to a different form of styling.

Another drawing that could be similar to this could be, again, four caveman, three of them are dragging their items across the ground but one caveman has a wheel to move his items.

  4. 1. This picture portrays cavemen cooking their food without using utensils which presented a problem as they ended up cooking their hands too, so one of them decided to use a stick instead.
    2. This picture is related to '2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke' in that they both involve adaptations, evolutions, and innovations. An example of this would be an invention for a weapon that Moon-Walker found where "It was a heavy, pointed stone about six inches long, and though it did not fit his hand perfectly, it would do."
    3. I thought that this comic by Gary Larson put a comedic prospective on the evolution of man which made it very likeable. I also thought of '2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke' as being exactly like this comic except more detailed and much more realistic/serious. This comic depicts a caveman doing something new, and the other cavemen come to look and see just like this part from '2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke' where "All the other man-apes in the group had stopped to watch, and now they crowded round Moon-Watcher and his victim with admiring wonder."
    4. The picture I would use similar to this comic frame would describe the situation from the story that I just quoted above in number three.

  5. 1. The comic depicts several cavemen sitting around a fire, attempting to cook the meat with their hands. One caveman, implied to be more intelligent beacuse he is wearing glasses, is cooking his food on a stick.
    2. It is showing that one of a certain species may be smarter or genetically superior to another. (Some of the man-apes it ignored completely, focusing on the most promising subjects. -Arthur C. Clarke).
3.I enjoyed this comic, as i am a fan of both Gary Larson and the Far Side. While i have not seen the movie or read the full novel of 2001:A Space Odyssey, i feel that i would enjoy those.
4.I would draw HAL 9000's eye dispalying the Windows 404 System Error Blue Screen of Death.

  6. 1.The picture titled "Check Out Zog" is a picture with four cave man and three of them are sitting around a fire and cooking meat and it seems as if they are burning the tips of their fingers because of the extreme heatt. But on the otherside of them their friend is also cooking meat but instead of burning himself he puts it on a stick. All of his friends look amazed.

2.How the picture relates to the reading from the reading 2001:The Space Odyssesy is in The Space Odyssey in Chapter 2 Moon-Watcher discovers a "new rock" they no one had ever seen.
Mr.Clarke 2001:The Space Odyssesy "It was certainly rather attractive and, though he was wisely catious of most new things, he did not hestiate for a long time before sidling up to it"
And in the picture it said Chech Out Zog Mr.Larson "Hey!Look what Zog do!" In both the picture and the exerpt these caveman and man-ages had lived such a simply ignornant life that these new objects although not much to us were amazing to them.

3.My thoughts on Mr.Larsons comic is its simplicity gets it a realness, and I like it because it vaguely shows exactly how cave man in the prehistoric era would react to such a new invention. I do like a The Space Odssesy

  7. 1. This is a picture of 4 cavemen who are holding some sort of animal limb. 2 of the cavemen look worried and confused, while another is watching the 4th caveman cook his animal limb over fire, seemingly impessing the spectator.

    2. This picture relates to the chapter Acadmeny in 2001: A Space Odyssey in the way that it dictates early humans evolving and finding smarter ways to do things, similar to the way Moonwalker figured out how to kill the pig after realizing new insticts from the "shiny rock". "Now they were doing extrordinary things" -Clark, 2001: A Space Odyssey

    3. I think Gary Lawson did a good job trying to capture curiosity of the cavemen, but it doesn't make any sense that the cavemen are fat- they are just learning how to use fire to make food more edible."Like most animals that did not compete for the same food, they merely kept out of eachothers way" -Clark, 2001: A Space Odyssey

At first 2001: A Space Odyssey seemed like a really slow dry book because of the fact that the only thing they talked about for a whole chapter was the uninteresting day to day life of an early human. When they introduced the "shiny rock" it got more interesting because you were able to make assumptions about what was going on and how it connected with the title of the book.

    4. I could picture a drawing with a group of simple looking men excitedly standing around some modern piece of techonolgy (like a CD, for example) in total shock and awe over something that is to us, so simple. I feel this could capture the mood of this point of the story.

  8. Part2 Post:
3.2001:The Space Odyssey is a great story so far, its take us back to a time that we don't know much about and it allows us to runaway with our imagination. It tells such a detailed story that you almost believe what the story is saying, although you know its not.

4.I would draw a picture of a bunch of big man with full grown beards and clothing such as bear and deer skin. The picture would take place in Time Square New York and I would have about 7 cave men looking and pointing at the giant TV in Time Square .Some would smile and others would stare in amazement.

2001: The Space Odyssey/ Mr.Clarke "Now utterly hypnotized, the man-apes could only stare slack-jawed into this astonishing display of pyrotechnics."

  9. the icture depicts cave men all together and one advancing in what he does nsuch as being able to cook his own food in a new way much simler and safer than the rest

this picture is like the oddosey because while every one else does their daily routine on man ape or moon watcher decides on his own to do somthing differebt to try something new

I do like the picture because to me it shows how we andvance it technology or with te ways that we do things wwe make them much simpker than before

a drawing i would put would be a group of people riding horses to go to work and one guy driving a car

  10. 1. In this picture i see 4 cavemen. 2 of the cavemen are trying to cook their food by placing their hand inside the fire. There is another caveman all the way in the back who looks like he knows what he is doing because he is cooking his food with a stick. The last caveman is amazed in what the smarter cave man is doing.

    2. This picture is related to 2001: A Space Odyssey because the smarter caveman in the back, in my opinion, represents Moon-Watcher. He is the more advanced man-ape in his little tribe. The author shows this in this quote, "The first imitations of intelligence could not possibly fulfill itself"(2001: A Space Odyssey).

    3. I like this comic because this sort of represents the whole time line of man and how they matured into becoming the human beings that we are today. The comic however makes it seem like a humorous story.

So far in 2001: A Space Odyssey, the story is boring and filled with too many details on the life of Moon-Watcher. The best part of it so far is the shiny rock that posses the cavemen into doing things. This got me thinking that what if this shiny rock is really a spaceship. This quote backs up my thinking, " Now the spinning wheels of light began to emerge, and the spokes fused into luminous bars that slow receded into the distance, rotating on their axes as they did so" (2001: A Space Odyssey).

    4. Another drawing that i would use is 3 people hand writing letters to other people and one person sending an email.

  11. 1. The picture shows four cavemen sitting around two fires. One of them, the one wearing glasses, is roasting his food, while one of them on the left is gripping the fire in pain.
    2. The picture relates to "2001: A Space Odyssey" because Moon-Walker also encountered four 'man-apes'. "Night after night the spectacle of those 4 plump man-apes was repeated..." -2001: A Space Odyssey, Clark
    3. I like this comic, I think it represents life before people understood fire was hot, and before we knew a lot of other things.
    4. Another drawing I would use is a picture of more cavemen using modern technology, like a computer. It would go against what cavemen were about.

  12. In the picture 3 men are trying to cook animals to eat, in doing so they are burning their hands because they don't know better. The fourth man named Zog ,according to the quote at the bottom, is using a stick to cook his fish to prevent the burning of his hands.

This is related to the Space Odyssey because out of all the man apes only one was smart enough to think more thoroughly( Moon Watcher), just as the three men didn't know better and the fourth knew what to do."He did not know that the Old One was his father, for such a relationship was utterly beyond his understanding" ,(2001: Space Odyssey, Clark).

My thoughts about this comic is that it relates a lot to the Space Odyssey. The comic shows how early humans discovered new technology at their own pace by randomly trying new things. I like the comic because it shows how we get more advanced by doing the simplest of things. I like the Space Odyssey because just as the comic it shows how we advance. Also I like the novel because it helps us understand how hard it is to live simply."It was always hungry, and now it was starving"(2001: A Space Odyssey, Clark).

I would have drawn a picture of a man beating a stone with a hammer looking tool and 3 other men beating another stone with their hands.

    1. In Larson's picture, we see several cave men surrounding a fire, that are trying to cook meat. While this takes place, their hands are burned in the process, causing them extreme pain. Zog, the cave man in the background, has placed his food on a stick, causing him not to get burned.
    2. Larson's cartoon is related to 2001: A Space Odyssey because while the other ape-like creatures are barley surviving, eating only twigs and roots, Moon-Watcher decides to kill a boar to eat meat, a much heartier meal. (“It was a surprisingly long time before one of the nursing females began to lick the gory stone she was holding in her paws” –Clarke)
    3. I like this picture very much, because it is very comical. It reminds me of the episode of Spongebob where the crew goes back to prehistoric times, and discovers fire. In the episode, the pre-historic ocean dwellers did not know what to do with the flame, until Spongebob began to cook food on it.
    4. I would create a drawing in which the man-apes use the knots they learned how to make in order to make a water-purifier, so they could have proper water nourishment instead of drinking the filthy mud-water. This is increased technology because it will help the man-apes gain proper amounts of water, rather than sifting through the mud. (“And everyone drank his fill of muddy water”-Clarke)

  14. 1. there are four cave men in the picture. the first two are burning themselves trying to cook meat with fire, the third one in the back is cooking his meat on a stick over the fire, the picture represents him with glasses to show his intelligence.
    2. the cave man with intelegence reminds me of moon watcher wen he dicovers "shiny rock" that no one had seen before.(2001: A Space Odyssey, Clark)
    3. i like this comic, it shows that man king=d can always move foward in life.
4.so far i think space odyssey is insightful with a fictional twist.

  15. This picture is of plump cave men that have been fed well and are preparing more food to eat. They have understood how to satisfy thier needs for food and have used it to thier advantage. They have also understood the uses of fire.

This picture is of the plump cave men that were shown to Moon-Watcher on the face of the crystal while it was trying to improve his brain and way of thinking. The title of the chapter this part of the story was in was called Academy. So, I think that the crystal was trying to teach Moon-Watcher other ways in which he could satisfy his need for nurishment. This new way of finding food would involove killing living creatures and eating them.

I think it is a great picture, but I don't think that it is one that would work best in describing this part of the story. I feel that this picture is to much of a comic and this story has more of a serious tone to it. The picture could be adapted more to the tone of the stroy by adding more realistic details of the story's setting.

Another picture that I would create to represent increased technology would be a cave man carving a stick in to a spear to use as a hunting tool.

"Presently one of them picked up the blood-stained weapon, and began to pound the dead pig" 2001: A Space Odyssey Arthur C. Clarke.

"And it was longer still before Moon-Watcher, despite all that he had been shown, really understood that he need never be hungry again" 2001: A Space Odyssey Arthur C. Clarke.

  16. -This is a picture of four cavemen or "man-apes," two of which are cooking meat over a fire with their own hands, and another using a stick to cook his food, to the wonder of the fourth man-ape.

-This picture is similar to "2001: A Space Odyssey" because of the enhanced intelligence and use of technology of a singular member of the tribe of man-apes. The caveman using a stick to cook his food is like Moon-Watcher, who is the most human like and intelligent of the man-apes. Also, this relates to the instance where Moon-watcher dreams of four healthy and fat man-apes. "Night after night the spectacle of those 4 plump man-apes was repeated..." (Clarke, 2001, A Space Odyssey)
-This picture is a lighter, more comic take on the circumstances of "2001: A Space Odyssey" The novel is more serious in tone and more descriptive and authentic than this comic.
-I would create a picture of man-apes creating cave drawings on a wall, and one of the cavemen creating a very artistically done painting, with a caption similar to this one like "Look what Zog do!"

    1) The picture shows four cavemen. Three of them are putting their hands in fire trying to cook fish, but one of them is using a stick to cook the fish. The other three cavemen are amazed at what the single caveman did.
2)This picture relates because in the picture, there is one caveman, or "man-ape" that is smarter or more human-like than the rest. In the story, Moon-watcher is that one caveman. The one that is the smarter and uses his brain more. He is more human like, so he is farther into evolution than the rest. "Among his kind, Moon-watcher was almost a giant." - (Clarke, 2001: A Space Odyssey) That quote shows how different Moon-Watcher was. They also relate becuase it shows how the advancement of technology was used within the cavemen. "And it was longer still before Moon-Watcher, despite all that he had been shown, really understood that he never needed to be hungry again." - (Clarke, 2001: A Space Odyssey) That quote shows how Moon-Watcher used technology and his brain to kill a pig and not be hungry.
3)I like the drawing because it is funny and clever at the same time. It sums up the advancement of technology into one portrait.
    4) Something very similar could be drawn to send out this message. Maybe something including the creation of the wheel, but it has to be something comparing a slower caveman, and a smarter caveman.

  19. This picture is of cavemen sitting around a fire trying to cook some food. They are sticking their hands directly into the fire, harming their hands. Then they see zog cooking his meat on a stick, not harming himself.

This is related to 2001: a space odyssey because it shows cave men developing new technologies, many of which we take for granted and think are very simple inventions.

I like this comic because it shows the basic idea of an untntelligent cave man burning his hand, and then the slightly more developed cave man doing something smart. I also like 2001: a space odyssey. It's interesting, but it isn't what I expected. I thought it would start out seeming much more futuristic, not based on a man-ape in prehistoric Africa. But I like it anyway.

A comic I would draw similar to this one would have something to do with Moon-Watcher figuring out how to kill another animal and use it for food. This was a breakthrough for them because they were always struggling to find food, and now they wouldn't have to be hungry.

Instead of putting his hand in danger of the fire like the first three man he was smart and put the meat on a stick and cooked it in the fire.
The picture is related to the reading from 2001: A Space Odyssey, because the book setting is in a time where caveman where apart of civilization. Also it related to the character (MoonWatcher)from 2001: A Space Odyssey. As in the picture the 4th man who is alone knew what to do when it came to fire. (MoonWatcher) knew what to do to survive in the wild life or to him reality.
I am really not a fan of the caveman life, because i really don't blieve in it. I feel that th drawing above at the top of the page is a fictional or foke tale. That has been told generation to generation, and expected to believe. It's unreal to me, but that's just how i feel. Also, 2001: A space odyssey is unreal to me, i wouldn't exactly say it was based on cavemans. Maybe more of the way life would be naturally. Without Technology, or anyother resources we have today that could've been useful to there time in the picture.
I would draw a picture or like a symbol of how to cook a meal without burning yourself, because it would decrease the harmful accidents to there hands or any other harms way.

  21. 1. This picture is of 4 cavemen that are spilt up around two fires. Around one fire is a caveman cooking fish and around the other, there are 3 cavemen with so animal bone looking very frustrated as one looks in amazement at the cavemen cooking the fish.

    2. This picture is related to 2001: Space Odyssey beuase it has cavemen but one seems to have greater intelligence then the rest. As one uses a stick to cook fish, the others are dumbfounded becuase they cannot find a way to cook their bone. This is like the story becuase Moon-Watcher is smarter than the rest. Although it was not said, you could tell he thought differently than the others. He was also the leader "...he lead the tribe down to the river..." (Clarke)

    3. I do like this picture becuase it showed how this were invented in the cavemen days through pictures. And also I like it because it makes you have to really look at this picture to notice what is going on becuase I didn't understand at first either. I like 2001: Space Odyssey so far because its an awesome way to see how things now came about. Like in the story when he found the ice, he said, "...a few licks and a couple nibbles, disillusioned him." (Clarke)

    4. A picture I would draw would be of of the creation of the club, or the discovery of ice. So cool :)

    2. This comic relates to 2001: A Space Odyssey because it is showing how cavemen started to become smart. Zog, the caveman using a stick, is kind of evolving into more of a human because he is thinking about ways to make like easier. He is using technology.
    3. I like this comic because it really makes you think about what it's trying to say.

I think this is a good way to show technology but i dont really like comics or cavemen. The logic behind the picture is what makes me like the picture. I think the story 2001:Space Odyssey was a good story even though I didn't believe any of it. I thought it was unreal and not possible, but I understood the concept. 2)The picture is related to "2001: A Space Odyssey because in the story moon watcher found an easier way to live he was the first to use a simple stone to kil an animal which ended their hunger and made it easier to find food.
3)I like the comic because even though it is just a cartoon it shows how man evolved and became dominant by using simple things to make life easier. With a simple thing like cooking food with a stick so you dont burn yourself later they would invent more and more useful inventions.
    4) I would draw a drawing of a bunch of cavemen carrying a bunch of rocks having to drag the whole thing, then on the side another cavemen using a wheelbarrel made of stone with a wheel, which would show another useful invention and a simple one, the wheel.
